Description
The deltoid muscle of the shoulder is commonly used for smaller volume injections. It is easily accessible but has limited capacity and can be more prone to PIP.

Injection Technique
1. Locate the thickest part of the deltoid, about 2-3 finger widths below the acromion (shoulder bone) 2. The injection site forms an inverted triangle 3. Relax the arm completely 4. Clean the area 5. Insert at 90-degree angle 6. Aspirate carefully 7. Inject slowly (especially important for this site) 8. Withdraw and apply light pressure
Rotation Schedule
Best for smaller volumes. Rotate between left and right deltoids. Allow 5-7 days between same-side injections. Not ideal for frequent high-volume injections.
Common Mistakes
Injecting too high (hitting bone), too low (radial nerve), or too far back. Using too large a volume causing excessive PIP. Not relaxing the muscle.
⚠️ Nerve & Safety Warnings
Radial nerve and axillary nerve are nearby. Stay in the middle of the muscle mass, 2-3 finger widths below the acromion process.
