Description

The rectus femoris runs down the front of the thigh. While accessible, it tends to be more painful and prone to PIP than the vastus lateralis.

PIP Likelihood:

Injection Technique

1. Sit down with leg relaxed
2. Use the middle third of the front thigh
3. Stay centered on the front of the leg
4. Clean the area
5. Pinch the muscle if needed
6. Insert at 90-degree angle
7. Aspirate and inject slowly
8. Withdraw and massage gently

Rotation Schedule

Can rotate with vastus lateralis sites. Allow 5-7 days between injections in the same site.

Common Mistakes

Injecting while standing (muscle tension), not using middle third, injecting too close to the knee.

⚠️ Nerve & Safety Warnings

Femoral nerve and vessels run nearby on the inner thigh. Stay on the front center of the thigh.
